Walter Solón Romero is a muralist who in 1961 won Bolivia's

National Art Prize. Well-known in international art circles, Romero has had his work displayed in nearly all the capitals of the world.

In the city of Sucre Romero founded a group of artists and intellectuals, called "Anteo," which became Bolivia's first school for muralists. Its members have strongly influenced contemporary Bolivian painting.

Romero studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes and the Escuela Nacional de Maestros in Bolivia and later at the Faculty of Plastic Arts of the University of Chile and at the Engraving Workshop of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. He continued his studies with UNESCO projects in Japan, India, Egypt and Greece.

His art is a personal witness (his own son was tortured and killed in prison) of "the cry of my people" in the last decade of captivity.
